There are countless trends that we didn’t anticipate coming back in style: Birkenstocks, low-rise jeans, scrunchies, flared leggings (or yoga pants if you’re a millennial), and fanny packs—to name a few noteworthy comebacks. But claw clips? I don’t know why we didn’t see this one coming. In hindsight, Rachel Greene wore one in just about every episode of Friends, so we should have known they would never truly go out of style.
Now that they are back in full force thanks to Gen Z and stars like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Kaia Gerber, we obviously grabbed some for ourselves. But there’s been one consistent problem: Some of us have been hard-pressed to find ones that work for our hair type—they are always either too heavy, too big, too small, or somewhere in between.
So if you too are struggling with getting in on the hype, we get it. A few of our editors with different hair types are joining forces to review different sizes, shapes, and styles of claw clips, so no matter your hair type, you too can find the claw clips that work for you.
The Clips Garri Tried:
Claw Clip
I was so excited to try this clip only to be super disappointed by how it worked out. I could barely get all my hair inside, and once I did, the hold felt tenuous at best. That said, this clip would likely be great to use while styling curly hair. It's just not optimal for all day wear.

Jumbo Claw Clip
I really thought this clip was going to be great. It's billed as "jumbo" but in comparison to the other clips I tried, it wasn't as big and I struggled to get my hair inside of it. It's a beautiful style, though, and like every other Kitsch product I've tried, it's great quality. It would be perfect for someone with a little less hair than me.

Hypernova Clip with Two Springs
I've got to say, when I first saw this clip I chuckled at how absolutely massive it is. That said, I'm so glad it's on the market for people with extremely long, thick tresses. While my hair is both long and thick, it isn't long or thick enough to require a clip of this size. For my Rapunzels out there, though, your search for the perfect clip is over. The double springs make it extra secure, and the gorgeous colors make it the perfect final touch to any outfit.

XL Dreamy Claw Clip
If not for my eventual winner, the Toni Rose claw clip would have been my undisputed MVP—it really was that close. This clip is large and strong enough to hold all of my hair without budging, even after a full day of running errands. Bonus: it's absolutely gorgeous. I want every color.

Garri’s Winner:
Supernova Clip with One Spring
Ding, ding, ding! I've found the claw clip of my absolute DREAMS with the Acrasia Supernova clip. The material is high quality and strong, and though I felt the single spring version was sufficient enough to hold my hair (I even did jumping jacks with it to test its hold) it does come in a two spring option for a bit of extra security. Curly girls with long hair, this is the claw clip for you. I promise.

The Clips Jess Tried:
Large Matte Black Claw Clip
I grew up wearing Scünci hair accessories, so I just had to try one of their current clips. I liked that this one has a different shape—it's shorter and wider, versus the narrower design of the other clips. If you're looking for a clip that is meant for more of a bun style than a traditional claw clip twist, this would be a good option. The teeth are also longer, so it can hold a lot of hair. However, now that I've tried the cellulose acetate clips, the quality of plastic ones just doesn't measure up.

Large Hair Clip
I'm a fan of Teleties hair ties, so I wanted to give their claw clip a try. I was also drawn to this one's unique design and the fact that it's designed to be unbreakable. It comes in three sizes, and this is the biggest. It worked for my hair, but I do wish there was one size bigger for extra long and thick hair types—however, I do appreciate that it comes in lots of stunning colors. Overall, I think this one is a great option for medium hair and I can definitely see myself using it as a ponytail clip.

XL Dreamy Claw Clip
This whole claw clip review idea was inspired by Bethany Simko's TikTok series, so when I saw that she crowned this clip as her winner, I knew I had to try it. Not only is the clip gorgeous, it has great hold and feels very high-quality. It's made from cellulose acetate, which is eco-friendly and more flexible (AKA a lot harder to break than plastic). If your hair is long, you'll love this one—it's actually big enough to fit all of my hair and I don't have to constantly readjust it.

Joey XL Clip
I picked this one out because I was drawn to its unique design and wanted to try something a little different to see how it would hold in my hair. I absolutely love how it looks in my hair, and I can definitely see myself reaching for this one when I want to add a fun and stylish touch to my outfit. Outside of its design, it actually held my hair very well and I did not have to readjust it. It's also super lightweight, so it's easy to throw in your bag for a day out. Plus, it's budget-friendly at only $12!

Jess’ Winner:
Hypernova Clip with Two Springs
I'll start by saying that this is the biggest clip I've ever seen. If your hair is super long and thick and you can never seem to find a claw clip that actually holds, this is the one for you. It's designed with both the length and width to secure a lot of hair, so you can wear it all day without readjusting it. It also comes in a two-spring option for extra grip, which I love. Acrasia's clips are made with eco-friendly cellulose acetate as well (and come in all recycled or biodegradable packaging!). The quality of this clip is amazing—I've never felt another quite like it.

The Clips Hailey Tried:
Marble Midcentury Claw Clip
First of all, I knew I loved the look of this clip online, but it's stunning in person. Even though it's marketed for half-up hairstyles, I thought I'd test it out to see if it could hold all my hair at once. Usually, I opt for smaller claw clips because my hair is fine and larger clips are typically too heavy in it, and after giving this a go, I am glad I stuck with this size, however, I do wish that it were a tad bit bigger. It did work wonderfully though for a half-up hairstyle!

Large Claw Clip
I had very high hopes for this claw clip simply because I think that Lululemon has some of the best scrunchies in the game, and I figured if they can do a scrunchie well, their claw clips would be just as good. But unfortunately for me, that is not the case. This is the "Large" size, and I struggled to get it to hold all my hair. Since the spring isn't super strong, I had too much hair (a rare problem for me) for this to stay in place. I was sadly disappointed in this clip for my hair type, however, my mom who has finer hair than me tried it on and it worked great in her hair. So all in all, if you have short, thin hair, this clip is perfect for you. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.

Hailey’s Winner:
Medium Claw Clips
I'll be honest: I liked this more than I thought I would after receiving it in the mail. When I first opened the 2-pack, I wasn't as impressed by the look or the material as the other claw clips I ordered, but I underestimated them. Some of the reviews of this clip say that the spring isn't as strong as other claw clips, and I totally disagree. It holds strong and feels comfortable in my hair, and I even think it would work for girls with hair that's thicker than mine too. As a bonus, they come in a 2-pack for $8 which is a price point you don't see often for claw clips.
