June 2022

When it’s time to refresh my makeup bag, I frequently turn to Credo thanks to their crazy large selection of actually clean beauty products (2,000+ options and counting). When I discovered Bobbi Brown’s new makeup line, Jones Road, on their site, my interest was immediately piqued. I came of age well before YouTube makeup tutorials were a thing and I learned how to do my makeup by reading one of Bobbi Brown’s books. Yes, I know how ancient that makes me sound, but it also makes me nostalgic to recapture any of that Bobbi Brown magic.

Within minutes of perusing the new line, I knew good things were coming my way. My first impression? Jones Road is like Glossier for beauty lovers who have evolved past Glossier (no shade intended—their product line is very solid and an affordable way to stock up on basics). When I made my beauty-loving best friend try Jones Road, that was her first impression too.

For a more detailed review of the products I tried (and I tried a lot), keep reading.

Jones Road

Miracle Balm

I'll never miss an opportunity to rave about this product. This creamy formula creates the most perfect flush that actually looks like you’re blushing and can be used on the eyes and lips as well. I use the shade Tawny which is the perfect reddish brown for my olive skin tone and every time I put it on I feel like I look so much fresher without being overly made up. If you want that I spent too much time in the sun look, you can dab a little on the bridge of your nose.

mascara
Jones Road

The Mascara

Inky black mascara that doesn’t flake or end up making shadows beneath my eyes? That’s always a yes in my book. The fact that the formula is clean (which is pretty comforting considering it goes near my eyes) is just the icing on the cake for me.

Jones Road

Sparkle Wash

Buy this creamy eye shadow in the shade Gilded and thank me later. I love a good Korean beauty tutorial, but more often than not the videos I come across don’t highlight products that are easily found in the U.S.. For months I’ve been on the hunt for a subtle shimmery eye shadow with a clear base to replicate the light washes of shimmer I see in those tutorials. This eyeshadow delivers exactly that. You can layer it for a really bold sparkly look, but one small dab creates the effect I was looking for—light, bright, and not at all like I’m heading to a disco.

Jones Road

The Best Eye Shadow

For those that prefer a powder base for their eyeshadows, this one is pretty solid. The big selling point for me? It actually stays put and doesn’t end up getting powder in my eyes. For years I struggled with eye discomfort and assumed it was from wearing contacts. Spoiler alert—the itchiness was caused by eye shadow that wouldn’t stay put. Fun times.

Jones Road

Light Moisture Cream

If I’ve learned anything from Bobbi Brown over the years, it’s to make sure the skin is nice and moisturized before applying makeup. This light moisturizer can be used day or night, but I turn to it before applying my makeup since it absorbs easily and creates a smooth base for my makeup without making my skin too slick.

jones road skin brush
Jones Road

The Skin Brush

Another thing I’ve noticed popping up more and more in the beauty tutorials I come across on Instagram is the return of foundation brushes. I love a good wet beauty sponge, but I’m starting to wonder if the permanent dampness of my sponge is a breeding ground for bacteria (it almost definitely is). I’ve been loving the smooth look this brush gives my foundation. As a bonus, I feel like I end up with a lot less makeup on my fingers than when I use a sponge.

lip gloss
Jones Road

Cool Gloss

I’ve always been a gloss girl—which is yet another side effect of coming of age in the mid aughts. I’m very tempted to try every shade of this gloss, but for now I’m sticking with my tube of the Original shade which is a lightly sparkly clear that has a nice minty scent. It’s the kind of gloss I always like to keep in my handbag.

jones road foundation
Jones Road

What The Foundation

This foundation is getting equal amounts of love and hate on social media, but I’m here to give it all the love. Apparently if you try to use it over a silicone based primer, the formulas don’t mix well. Knowing this before I tried the foundation, I applied it directly to my skin and it blended like a dream. This foundation basically combines a super dewy moisturizer with a lot of coverage (it’s really easy to apply too much so start small). When I apply it I don’t look like I’m wearing foundation, just like I’m having a really good skin day. It provides more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but feels really fresh and glowy for summer.

jones road face pencil
Jones Road

The Face Pencil

This is the perfect concealer to pair with the What The Foundation. Because it’s not a liquid formula, it works really well under the super moisturizing foundation. I love how easy it is to blend out and that it’s not a liquid so it’s perfect to travel with.

jones road lip and cheek stick
Jones Road

Lip And Cheek Stick

Speaking of travel friendly products, this creamy formula can be applied to both lips and cheeks and creates the prettiest rosy glow. As a result, it will always have a spot in my carryon from here on out. I also don’t love to carry around cosmetics with me in my purse on a day-to-day basis, so I appreciate that I can throw this in my bag and touch up both my cheeks and lips on the go.

jones road shimmer oil
Jones Road

Shimmer Face Oil

The key to making highlighter work when you have an olive skin tone? Give up on the pearly pinks and whites and go straight for the gold (I tried the shade Midas). You can apply this face oil under your foundation all over for a really nice glow (aka the perfect summer makeup look) or can use it sparingly as a highlighter. I’ll never say no to a little extra glow.

jones road hippie stick
Jones Road

Hippie Stick

If I sound obsessed with travel friendly beauty products, it’s because I am. A few weeks ago I went on my first flight since 2019 and all the liquids I brought with me oozed out of their containers (thank you cabin pressure). Next time, I’m bringing this moisturizing balm with me so I don’t have a big mess to clean up. I never have room for both skin, body, and hair products in my carryon, so this multipurpose balm feels like the perfect solution.

The post Can’t Escape Jones Road Ads? We Tried Their Products so You Don’t Have To appeared first on The Everygirl.

As much as I love the sunshine, the beach, and every rooftop bar in sight, the maintenance that comes with summer is not my favorite thing in the world. Shaving, for me, is basically the worst of it, so I’m constantly searching for tips. First of all, it takes FOREVER. I personally choose to shave my legs, arms, and bikini line in the summer, so I’m basically in the shower for three hours on a shaving day. Then, I get sick of shaving for so long—so I skimp and rush and end up cutting myself, making my shower a bloody mess. But shaving doesn’t necessarily have to be a giant production. We’ve rounded up our favorite tips to save you time, stress, and band-aids.

1. Don’t be afraid of men’s razors

As much as I love my favorite Venus razor, sometimes I just want something that will do the job a little quicker and more efficiently. That’s where a men’s razor comes in. The blades in a men’s razor are packed a little tighter than in a women’s razor. Think about it: men sometimes have some thick beard hair, and this thing is meant to go on their faces. They need something powerful but also gentle and nick-proof. Men’s razors can also be easier to use, as they’re meant to navigate the contours of the face. It’ll glide perfectly around the knees and ankles.

2. Find a good travel razor

Disposable razors can be fine, but this razor is a lifesaver when I’m traveling or just need to shave under my arms quickly before a night out. I thought it might be really gimmicky at first, but this razor has changed my life. Surrounding the blades is a cream made of coconut milk and almond oil that eliminates any need for shaving cream (seriously, it’s magic). The four blades get a close shave, and the design is so easy to glide across the skin. You need this.

3. Use specific tools for your bikini area

Shaving my bikini area used to be an hour-long event, but with this, I’m out the door and heading to the beach ASAP.

Schick

Hydro Silk TrimStyle Moisturizing Razor

This razor is GENIUS for the bikini area. One side is a five-blade razor that works beautifully on your legs and underarms as well. The real magic is in the other end of the razor though, which is a built-in trimmer that can be used in the shower.

Gillette Venus

Venus For Pubic Hair & Skin Razor

Venus pulled through with the first razor designed specifically for pubic hair (and they're not afraid of calling it what it is: pubic hair!). Editor-tested and approved: this razor is sharp as hell without worrying me that I'll cut myself in the absolute worst place to cut myself. Unlike other razors, I experience no irritation with this. Game-changer.

Oui the People

Sensitive Skin Razor

If you find every razor leaves you irritated with nicks and ingrown hairs, a safety razor like this one might be your best one. It's ultra-gentle, but still gets a close shave.

4. No shaving cream? Put down the soap

Soap is the WORST thing you can use if you want soft skin after the shave. Not only is soap a lot more drying on the skin, generally a body soap contains ingredients that will dull the blades on your razor. Conditioner, coconut oil, a thick body cream, or body oil work so much better in a pinch, without the risk of ingrown hairs, nicks, and cuts. When you do have shaving cream, I say go for one that’s thick in consistency rather than in a gel formula. Those generally moisturize while you shave, leaving you extra soft.

5. Exfoliate

This is a pretty well-known tip, but it has to be said. I do this every time I shave, and not only does it make my skin feel like a baby’s bottom, but it also gets rid of all that dead skin that’s preventing me from getting the closest shave. My favorite method of exfoliating is using a sugar scrub because it’s quick, easy, and makes the least mess.

6. Shave at the end of your shower

Since I first learned how to shave my legs, I’ve been shaving as I leave my conditioner on for the 2-3 minutes the package says. However, one of the best tips I’ve learned (especially for shaving my bikini area!) is to have my shaving be the last step in my shower. The hot water and steam from your shower are slowly opening up your pores and cleansing the top layer of your skin, so shaving after the steam has had a chance to do its thing makes sure you’re getting as close as possible to the hair follicles. It also makes sure there’s absolutely no dead skin, dirt, or grime that could be clogging the razor, which could eventually dull the blades quicker than normal.

7. Shave downward first, then upward

Every single shaving tip I have ever read is to shave in the direction of the hair growth. Does anyone actually do that?! Not me. Instead, I begin by shaving in the direction of the hair growth, and then I’ll do some strokes with the razor moving upward. This actually does prevent some of the irritation that comes with shaving against the grain while actually getting rid of some of the hair.

8. Shave east to west on your knees

The number one place I’m prone to accidentally cutting myself with my razor is my knees. The key, however, to getting the closest shave on your knees is to shave in multiple directions rather than just up and down. If you’re shaving east to west, make sure that your knee is bent to prevent any nicks. Then, straighten your knee and shave in the direction of the hair growth to get any strays you might have missed.

9. Use short strokes to prevent cutting yourself

Another way to prevent cuts is just simply by going more slowly. Rather than shaving all the way up the leg in one swipe, shave in short strokes. This also helps you catch every last hair and prevents you from having to go back and do more strokes that cause irritation.

10. Sanitize your razors

Keeping your razors clean is key to making sure they last long (get your money’s worth!), and you’re also making sure you’re not putting something covered in bacteria onto your skin. Gross. This starts right after you finish shaving by holding your razor under hot water for about 5-10 seconds and checking to make sure there isn’t hair stuck in any of the blades. You can also rinse with some rubbing alcohol to make sure the blades are sterilized. Then, dry your razor with a towel, toilet paper, or paper towel. If water sticks to the blades, it can cause them to rust, which we definitely don’t want. In a hurry? Hit it with your blow dryer.

11. Moisturize immediately

As soon as I get out of the shower on a shave day, my arms, legs, and bikini area are immediately covered in a thick cream that will reduce the redness, prevent itchiness, and smooth my skin. Moisturizing right after a shave adds the moisture back into the skin that you took away from all the exfoliation. My favorite trick is to use an in-shower lotion right after I turn my water off, and then I top it with my favorite body moisturizer. You’ll be glowing.

12. Prevent razor burn

Razor burn is the WORST way to kill my post-shave vibe. (You know what I’m talking about right?! The feeling after you shave when you feel like you just accomplished the biggest task on your to-do list and your skin is so smooth you just want everyone to touch it?) My favorite way to prevent this is with a little bit of tea tree oil. Not only is tea tree oil incredible for acne, but its antiseptic and antibiotic properties can also alleviate irritation from your shave. Rub a small amount on the areas you’re prone to razor burn right after shaving before you moisturize, and you should be smooth sailing.

Tend Skin

Tend Skin Solution

This product went viral on TikTok for being the best solution for razor burn.

13. Protect from the sun

Don’t let the post-shave high distract you from this crucial step. After shaving, your skin is supple, exfoliated, and your pores are ready to take on the day. Therefore, your skin is really sensitive to the sun. I know you know to put sunscreen on your face, but it’s just as important for the rest of your body.

14. Store your blades

The bathroom is the most humid, bacteria-collecting area of your home, and the last thing you need is your razor blades collecting any of that. The easy way to store blades is in a zippered bag away from any type of moisture, but you could also opt to keep them out of the bathroom altogether.

15. If all else fails, laser hair removal!

I wish I could say the temptation of laser hair removal doesn’t get to me. Yes, shaving is inexpensive and relatively easy, but sometimes, you just need the reassurance that you’ll never have to shave your bikini line again.

The post 15 Shaving Secrets to Help You Survive Summer appeared first on The Everygirl.

Every summer, I play a little game with myself called “sweat or dew?” and this year, the humidity is really making the sweat come out quite a bit more. I spend a lot of time in front of a mirror in the morning trying to get that perfect Instagram model glow, and I notice my dew has quickly transformed to exclusively sweat halfway through my commute. It’s seriously exhausting. However, this summer, I’m changing things up.

As much as I love the dewy, natural look in the summer, it doesn’t stop me from wearing all my favorite products and trying new beauty trends constantly. This means I have to take precautions to make sure my makeup stays all day and looks fresh even after a few hours of wear. Keep reading for my favorite tips, tricks, and products for a sweatproof makeup routine that won’t look crazy by the end of the day.

Primer

If you’re not wearing a primer this summer, your makeup will wear off. I repeat: Your makeup will melt off your face in patches, and you’ll be lucky if there’s even a trace of what you put on in the morning by the time you get home. This is the end-all trick to having amazing skin that doesn’t need touch-ups throughout the day.

However, not all primers are created equal, my friends. While a hydrating, moisturizer-like primer in the winter is key to keeping your skin from looking like the Sahara, we need something that will grip onto our faces and hold the makeup in place when we know we’ll be sweating up a storm. Opt for either a gel or balm formula. They’ll stay tacky once you put them on your face, but this only means it’ll hold the makeup and nothing will slip off.

Tula

Filter Primer Blurring & Moisturizing Primer

Multiple TEG editors swear by this primer, referring to it as the IRL Paris filter. It smooths your skin before you apply products, but it doesn't leave you dry like a lot of blurring primers do. You can even use this without foundation to give your skin a little boost without any coverage.

Milk Makeup

Hydro Grip Primer

This primer is perfect for all skin types. I picked this up as soon as it released (I'm obsessed with everything in the Kush line!), and it's been a godsend since the weather started warming up!

Tatcha

The Silk Canvas Protective Primer

When this product hit the market, it became everyone's new favorite. Not only does it smooth the skin like nothing else (what pores?), but it also has skincare effects to improve your skin over time. Genius!

Waterproof Foundation

On the days when you know your body will likely turn into a sweat machine, waterproof foundation has your back. Many people are drawn away from any foundations with waterproof in the name because they think it’s synonymous with matte, drying, or full-coverage foundations. While there are definitely long-wearing foundations out there with those claims, there are many that give a medium coverage and have a natural, satin finish to the skin.

For a seamless application that has a natural look, apply these foundations with a damp sponge. The product will glide across the skin evenly, and you can add more if you want more coverage. I promise, you won’t have to touch up!

MAC

Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

This is the foundation I wore for my senior prom many moons ago, and I still swear by it for a long-lasting, dewy finish. This stuff is no joke—I've jumped in a pool with this on (for testing purposes), and the foundation went nowhere.

Maybelline

Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation

If you want a more satin finish, this is a long-lasting alternative.

Beauty Balms

Most waterproof foundations have a heavier coverage, so for the days when you want a lighter look, go for some sort of beauty balm. Originally created to be the K-Beauty version of a foundation (because they included skincare, and K-Beauty is all about the skincare—we could take notes!), these products hold onto your face easier than a slippery foundation that’s meant to cover every pore on your face.

Because these have less coverage than a foundation, it also isn’t as noticeable when they do begin to inevitably wear off. These BB creams will gracefully start to dissipate from your face, but it won’t leave you with patches of foundation or come off in sections. If you’re working out, you’re going to an outdoor event, or your office mates like to pretend it’s still winter, these are an easy switch from your normal foundation.

The Lip Bar

3-in-1 Tinted Skin Conditioner with SPF 11

We love a beauty balm that's also good for the skin, like this one from TLB. It's ultra-lightweight and comes in a few shades specifically for tan to deep to dark skin tones (a shade range that is often unrepresented in complexion products alone, let alone BB creams).

Laura Mercier

Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free Natural Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 20

This is arguably the most well-known tinted moisturizer in the game, and it's not just hype. This product has a light-to-medium coverage (which is solid for a tinted moisturizer) and dries down to a natural, skin-like finish that makes it stay on your face all day long. If you prefer a bit of a dewier look, try the original.

Powder

If you know anything about makeup, you’ll probably be aware that setting your cream or liquid products with a powder will make it last longer. This is a makeup rule many of us have been following since we first started wearing it! However, there are a few tricks to keeping the summer dew while making your full face last in the heat.

First, make sure you’re applying all of your creams and liquids before going in with any powder products. So instead of applying your concealer and immediately going in with a powder, it’s wise to do concealer, any cream bronzers, blushes, or highlighters, and then setting it all with a translucent powder.

If you want a really dewy look a la your favorite Instagram makeup artists (looking at you, Katie Jane Hughes!), only put powder on the areas that actually get oily. This might be different for everyone, but the center of the face (nose, forehead, and chin) is usually the culprit. Use a small brush to lightly tap the powder in those areas, keeping the rest of the face powder-free and shiny AF (in the best way, of course).

I also recommend setting your liquid cheek products as well if you really struggle with your products coming off during the day. If you use a cream blush, go in with a powder blush in the same shade to keep it in tack. The same goes for bronzer, contour, and highlighter!

The powder you use can also have a lot to do with how to keep your makeup on without sacrificing the precious glow. Some powders are formulated to mattify the oiliest of skin while others blur the skin and set whatever is underneath. For those of us going for a natural, dewy look, you’ll want a product like the latter.

Hourglass

Veil Translucent Setting Powder

Please, bury me with this powder, because I don't want to ever be without it. This powder melts into the skin like nothing else, and it keeps your skin radiant without creases.

Fenty Beauty

Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder

This Fenty powder is for my oily-skin friends out there. This will keep your oils at bay for hours and hours. I'd also recommend this for baking!

Waterproof Mascara

This sounds like a no-brainer, but we’re going to hone in on the absolute best of the best here. Whether you’re going for “no makeup” makeup, everyday, or glam, there’s a waterproof mascara for the occasion this summer. Waterproof is amazing for making sure there are no smudges along the lower lashline, and it helps hold your curl all day long.

L'Oreal

Voluminous Mascara

This is the mascara they use on the This Is Us set, so you know it must be seriously waterproof!

Lancome

Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara

Go for a little drama with this mascara. It separates, lengthens, and volumizes to make you look like you're wearing false lashes.

Cream Eyeshadows

Some hot days, you want to wear as little as possible, and that’s OK! Other days, you still want to feel like yourself and enjoy getting all dolled up. For those days, cream shadows are the way to go. While they are a little sheerer than a normal powder eyeshadow, a cream or liquid shadow adheres to the eyes and adds a wash of color that is easily blendable. You can go for a matte option to keep it really neutral or go with a shimmery texture to give a wet, glimmery look to the eyes. The possibilities are endless!

Glossier

Lidstar Shadows

I can't talk about makeup without talking about Glossier—it's just not in me. The Lidstar shadows are my favorite way to add a little something to my eyes and be out the door in minutes. I love using these as liners too!

Rare Beauty By Selena Gomez

Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow

If you're opting for a monochromatic look this summer (it's trendy and extremely easy to master—highly recommend), Selena Gomez has you covered with these liquid shadows. Once you apply them and blend out, they stay all day.

Danessa Myricks Beauty

Colorfix Eye, Cheek & Lip Cream Pigment

If you want something seriously waterproof, these shadows are your gal. Made by professional makeup artist (and my absolute idol) Danessa Myricks, these have "artist" written all over them. They come in tons of shades ranging from classic neutrals to bright neons.

Lip Stains

While a liquid lip sounds like the go-to option for a hot summer day, a lip stain is the real shining star. Liquid lips can generally be drying and mattifying, which is the last thing you want to deal with on your lips all day long. Instead, a lip stain will give a wash of color across the lips that keeps them hydrated and comfortable. There are neutral and bright options, so you can go from day to night in an instant.

Bite Beauty

Outburst Longwear Lip Stain

Bold lip colors are trending every summer, and 2022 is no exception. I've been loving the popsicle lip look, so I gave these a try, and they're perfect. The three shades are gorgeous on every skin tone, and they look amazing when you wear them full-color or blotted and blended into your lip line.

Fresh

Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

Nude lip lovers, this is for you. I won't say these last all day long, but they definitely feel comfortable and moisturizing the entire time you're wearing them. Since they're a light wash of color, it's easy to reapply because they don't goop up or get flaky on your lips.

To create your own lip stain, swipe on a regular bullet lipstick and rub the edges to create a softer look. Blot with a tissue, and you’re good to go!

Setting Spray

You can’t talk about long-wearing makeup without a setting spray. What started as a way for drag queens and makeup artists on set for weddings and films to keep their makeup locked down (drag queens even use hairspray sometimes—wouldn’t recommend!) is now in the hands of those of us who just sweat, like, a lot.

Urban Decay

All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

I can't recommend anything other than All Nighter for a long-lasting setting spray. I can't imagine a setting spray getting any better than this. Use this, people. Your makeup will last all day long and look less powdery, and it's just refreshing. What else could you want?
