Replenix

Antioxidant Sunscreen Moisturizer

We don't need to tell you that sunscreen is a crucial step in your morning routine, but this sunscreen is truly the MVP of sunscreens. BEAKEY

Makeup Sponges with Oval Foundation Brush Toothbrush

Since the beauty blender took over beauty vlogs and Instagram accounts, people have been blending in their makeup with everything from a kitchen sponge to a Louboutin (seriously, google it). Don't pay high price for the intense makeup brushes and sponges (and don't go so far as to ruin your nice shoes) when you can get this pretty little pack on Amazon for a fraction of the cost. These two high- quality makeup sponges are perfect for blending in foundations or lotions, and the foundation brush is the secret step in flawless foundation. Trust me, your makeup routine will never be the same.

Neutrogena

Light Therapy Acne Treatment Face Mask

Neutrogena's new Light Therapy Acne Mask is basically what you'd get during a fancy AF facial, only for a fraction of the cost and in the comfort of your own home — seriously. It harnesses blue light to fight bacteria and red light to reduce inflammation — the perfect combo to treat and prevent acne or irritated skin. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin, but provides major benefits and improvement in overall skin texture and tone.

Aztec Secret

Indian Healing Clay

If you're tired of irritated acne, persistent pimples, and unnatural products that only cause dryness and irritation, the "World's Most Powerful Facial" is for you. The 100 percent natural clay has apparently been used for beauty since ancient times (when you got a good thing, right?), and goes deep into pores to remove impurities and dirt from the skin. It works as a spot treatment or mask to remove blackouts, reduce acne, and prevent pimples.

Ah, the Sunday Scaries — that unsettling start-of-the-week feeling that we know all too well. If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that if we do Sunday wrong, our whole week can be completely out of whack. But when we do it right? It’s a total game-changer.

We’re all about meal prepping to start our weeks off on the right foot, but there’s way more we can do to feel our very best when our alarm goes off at the crack of dawn on Monday morning. One of my very favorite beauty editors, Alessandra Steinherr, started doing an Instagram Live every Sunday of what she coined “Sunday Facial,” where she goes through an entire facial regime to get her skin as bright and hydrated as can be. Which got me thinking: what can I do on Sunday so I feel my absolute best, too?

I followed in Alessandra’s footsteps and sought to do a complete routine every Sunday to make me feel fresh and brand new at the start of every week — and even took it a few steps further.

Here’s everything you can do on Sunday so that you can tackle Monday on the best possible foot:

Deep-condition your hair

As an (admittedly fake) blonde, I deep condition more than I use regular conditioner in an attempt to make my locks as damage-free as possible. But on Sundays, I leave deep conditioner on under a shower cap and let it sit for up to an hour.

Give Yourself a Blowout

Associate Editor Kelly Etz introduced me to the wonders of this magical tool and I never looked back. It gives you the perfect sleek, volumized blowout that literally looks fresh from a salon. After giving your hair some TLC, spray on your favorite heat protectant and give yourself the straight-outta-DryBar hair you’ve always dreamed of.

Do Your Favorite Face Mask

Everyone’s skin concerns and needs are different, and we all know what works best for us. Cleanse your face, then before you apply your favorite skincare, apply your favorite mask. (Kill two birds with one stone and do it at the same time your hair is being conditioned!)

Try out one of our editors’ favorites.

Give Yourself a Facial Massage

Ever since gua sha became the buzziest skincare trend of the new year, it’s taken over our skincare routines and has helped us all become our glowiest possible selves. After you do your favorite mask, give yourself a facial massage with your favorite tool (or your hands!).

Pick Out Your Monday Outfit

As perky as you plan to be on Monday morning, odds are your energy levels will be less-than-ideal. Cut yourself a break by laying out your entire outfit (ironed and all) on Sunday night, so when you wake up you don’t have to put any thought into what you’re wearing and can hit the snooze button a few more times.

Meal Prep

I know, I know, we really are beating a dead horse with the whole meal-prep thing, but it’s changed our lives so much that we’re obliged to talk about it. Choose at least one meal to prep on Sunday, so come Monday, you’ll feel totally put-together and ready to tackle the day with a ton of energy from the the meal you made, rather than just the buzz of your morning cold brew.

How do you like to get ready for the week ahead on a Sunday?

The post What to Do on Sunday Night to Feel Your Best on Monday Morning appeared first on The Everygirl.

No matter the time of year, one skincare rule rings true: you absolutely, under every circumstance, need to wear sunscreen. Whether you’re shoveling snow from your driveway in Minneapolis or lounging on the beach in Barbados, the sun’s UVA/UVB rays are beating down on you all the same — yes, even if it’s overcast and raining. Sunscreen is the ultimate holy grail of skin health, so we do everything we can to motivate us to never skip out on it.

We’ve found the best daily sunscreens out there, all of which we actually want to put on in the morning. Gone are the days of having a stark white, greasy, sunscreen-ridden face — these sunscreens feel just like skincare and are perfect for dry skin.

Earth’s Recipe

Waterful Sun Gel SPF 50+

If you have sensitive or reactive skin that is especially irritated in the harsh winter weather, then a conventional sunscreen is not going to work for you. This particular product behaves on the skin more like an essence — meaning that it soaks right in and hydrates as well as it protects. You’ll never even know it’s there!

LANCÔME

BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+

The only product on our list that comes with a super official Skin Cancer Foundation recommendation, this high-end product’s merit easily justifies its higher price tag. The super silky formula envelops your skin in deep hydration and has been clinically tested for optimal coverage and protection from UVA/UVB rays.

Farmacy

Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Natural and clean beauty brands have long struggled to create facial SPF that wasn’t greasy or pilled under makeup or with other skincare — but that's not the case for Farmacy’s Green Screen. This all-natural SPF absorbs quickly and is loaded with soothing and protecting antioxidants, specifically echinacea, that calm any present irritation on your skin throughout the day.

EltaMD

UV Clear Facial Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 46

EltaMD has maintained a cult following by being one of the few brands that is recommended by estheticians and dermatologists alike. This product acts not only as an SPF but as a skin tone corrector as well. By including niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin E this formula goes to work fading dark spots and discoloration as well as plumping and minimizing fine lines.

MISSHA

All Around Safe Block Waterproof Sun Milk SPF 50+

Perfect for those of you who remain super dedicated to your outdoor workouts despite frigid temps, or anyone trying to survive winter in a rainy climate, Missha offers waterproof protection while also being impossibly hydrating. While other waterproof sunscreens can be super tight and irritating, this formula’s essence-like consistency melts into skin and won’t budge.

Neogen

Day-Light Sun Protection Sunscreen SPF 50 PA+++

Korean women hold two things sacred when it comes to skincare: hydration and sun protection. That’s why we trust a K-beauty brand’s SPF any day of the week. Neogen included rose extract for an extra dose of youth preserving power and this non-greasy formula that leaves zero white cast.

La Roche-Posay

Anthelios 50 Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid

We love a good viscous fluid formulation for SPF, and Anthelios 50 takes it up a notch by including an antioxidant blend that defends your skin from environmental aggressors like air pollution — perfect for those living in bigger cities. It also dries down matte which is excellent for layering under makeup.

Julep

No Excuses Invisible Sunscreen Gel SPF 40

As the name implies, this product aims to ensure that you have no excuse to opt out of daily sun protection. The gel consistency of this products dries down quickly into a satin-like finish, perfect to use in tandem with your favorite primer and foundation or to wear alone for a perfectly dewy complexion.

The post The Best Sunscreen for Dry Skin appeared first on The Everygirl.

Everyone’s seen the Instagram and Pinterest pictures of women with gorgeous, long curled locks. You spend an hour (or more) in front of the mirror, twirling a scalding hot iron around your head, creating the perfect curls that will hopefully brush out to the messy waves of your dreams. Then, after all that time, your hair falls flat before you even walk into the restaurant. Womp womp.

I’ve always had very fine hair that refuses to hold a curl. I did beauty pageants as a child (#nbd), and my grandma used to have to curl my hair and put it in sponge rollers for them to stay long enough to last the duration of the pageant. No one has time for that, but I also know that my lifeless curls need some revision stat.

So, why exactly does our hair lose shape so quickly? I went on a mission to figure out what I was doing wrong (self-awareness is key), and yeah, it was a lot. This is what I’ve learned from my mistakes!

1. You’re not using the right tools

There’s more to curling your hair than the old curling iron your mom gave you freshman year of high school for the homecoming dance. Upgrade your iron to something higher quality with ceramic plates that heat equally all the way through — this way your curls are the same size all the way through. A lot of people think that their irons need to get super hot to get the best curls. If you have very thick hair, you’ll want a higher heat than someone with finer or thinner hair; however, you shouldn’t need an iron with anything over 300 degrees, and make sure your iron is never set above 400 degrees.

Pay attention to the size of the barrel. Short hair would benefit from a thinner barrel because you can wrap your hair around the barrel more times and forces you to use smaller sections. People often think you need a large wand to do tousled waves. I’m not telling you what to do, but using a smaller barrel will make the curls tighter from the start so they fall throughout the day.

Also, don’t discriminate against curling irons! You can use a wand, an iron with a clip, or even a flat iron to create waves.

2. You’re not prepping your hair

The prep is almost as important as the actual work of curling your hair! One trick to getting your curls to last is using a product with hold before you put the iron on your hair. Whether it’s a moose, a heat protectant, a hair spray, or a dry texture spray, your hair will already be ready to hold onto the curl.  I love dry texture spray instead of hair spray because it gives your hair some grit which allows it to stick to the iron rather than sliding off and adds a nice messy texture.

If you have the money and are trying to get curls for a big event, consider adding extensions! Not only does this add length and tons of volume, but it also adds a different hair texture to the mix. This gives your curl more bounce.

3. You’re not sectioning your hair

If you have a lot of hair, you need to section. Not sectioning makes it easy to miss pieces, which makes your hair look flat even when it’s not. Don’t be afraid to go all in with your sectioning.

Especially if you’re using a small barrel, large sections of hair won’t get the same amount of heat across the iron, so make sure your sections are no larger than an inch.

4. You’re curling from the bottom to the top

When you curl from the bottom to the top, the bottom of your hair is getting most of the heat. This means your curls are the tightest at the bottom, which weighs down the hair closest to the scalp and makes the curls fall faster. This trick is especially important if you’re using a curling iron with a clamp.

This technique also comes in handy if you’re using a curling wand that tapers at the bottom. If the bottom of the barrel is thinner than the top, your ends are getting a tighter curl than the hair at the root. This creates a beautiful wave; however, it also tends to fall faster than a curling iron that is all the same size. You could opt to purchase a different curling iron or make do with what you have and place the entire section of hair onto the bottom of the barrel.

5. You aren’t holding the curls in place

Curls aren’t set until they cool, so while they’re still hot, pin them to your head. You can use bobby pins or clips. If you really need them to stay, spray your hair while they’re setting!

6. Your hair is too clean

Clean hair just doesn’t have the grit and hold of hair with a little oil in it. Curls work best on second or even third-day hair. If you need to be clean, you can add dry shampoo to your hair before you curl to give it some texture and volume.

7. You’re brushing out your curls

Of course, no one’s walking out of the house in pageant curls; however, you don’t need to use a brush to get the bounciness out of your curls! A brush pulls the curl down too much, whereas using a wide-tooth comb or just your fingers pulls them apart without overdoing it. I also recommend flipping your head over just after you finish curling and shaking the curls out at the root of your hair. Not only does this add serious volume, but it gives your curls some piecyness. My favorite trick for messy, undone curls!

Make sure to spray them with hairspray or dry texture spray before you brush them out so the hold stays.

We want to know — what hacks do you use to keep your curls in place all day?!

The post Why Doesn’t My Hair Hold a Curl? appeared first on The Everygirl.

I love makeup. I look forward to putting on makeup every single day, and I don’t just do the usual concealer, mascara, lip balm sorta thing. It’s a full 20-step process, give or take a few depending on how many times I snoozed. I decide my makeup before I pick out my outfit. I am a beauty girl, through-and-through, but I’ll be honest — skincare is the most time-consuming, boring thing to me.

I know what you’re thinking: how can I be so obsessed with my makeup and not the face underneath it?! I’ve been asking myself this question since I was young. I’ll buy a new product because my friends love it, get excited, use it for a few days, and it defaults to the back of my skincare cabinet behind the products I’ve deemed “easier.” As long as it’s easy and makes my face look good, I’m happy.

If you, too, struggle with the fuss of skincare but still want to look like a goddess (we can totally have our cake and eat it, too), here are my tips for getting the look without all the hassle. Lazy girls, I got you.

Try a sinkless routine

I have this terrible habit of never washing my face after a night out. I get home, and I just want some me-time with Taco Bell in my bed. The night gets the best of me, and I wake up in a panic, all to find a new breakout. I was over this cycle, so I decided to give myself a sinkless routine. I keep a couple of products in my nightstand so I never have an excuse to not take off my makeup before bed.

A lot of women keep makeup wipes in their nightstand, but I take it a little bit further. I use a micellar cleansing water with a cotton pad to remove makeup. Then, I go in with a cleansing oil, which I remove with a microfiber cloth spritzed with a little water from an old spray bottle. I go in with a toner, a moisturizer, and an eye cream to finish (because I do not want undereye bags tomorrow!).

Use products that serve more than one purpose

The key to having great skin without using product after product is investing in products that work overtime. Whether it’s an exfoliator that also has nourishing oils, a mask that doubles as an exfoliator, or a moisturizer that is rich enough to double as an eye cream, you’ll save time and money in the long run.

Drunk Elephant

T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial

This product is formulated with glycolic, tartaric, lactic, and citric acids to exfoliate, but it contains matcha, milk thistle, and apple extracts to hydrate, soothe, and nourish the skin. Also, it's an Everygirl Editor favorite!

Summer Fridays

R + R Mask

This mask has rose flower powder to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, and it contains argan, safflower, sesame, avocado, and grape seed oils to moisturize the skin.

Neutrogena

Hydro Boost Gel Cream

This moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid, so it moisturizes like no other. It plumps the skin enough to act as an eye cream, too!

Try treatment pads

We’re all about swipe-and-go here. Putting a toner on a cotton pad just takes too much time. Instead, opt for a product with pads already soaked in the treatment.

Source: Summer Fridays

Opt for an overnight mask

An overnight mask takes out the moisturization step, but I love them because they are easy to remove. I love a mud mask just as much as the next girl, but they are impossible to take off your face — don’t get me started on a peel-off mask because that is literally painful. An overnight mask gives you all the nourishment you’re craving, but it sinks into the skin and hydrates while you sleep. You literally don’t have to do anything, and you wake up with gorgeous, glowy skin. It’s the definition of a lazy girl hack.

Put your toner into a spray bottle

This hack has saved me so many times. Fed up with how many cotton pads I was using (so much waste!), I decided to funnel my toner into a travel size spray bottle. It is life-changing. When I go to apply my toner every night, instead of swiping it across my face, I spritz it on. Easy, takes a couple seconds, and the toner covers your entire face evenly. Genius, if I do say so myself.

Skip steps that don’t work for you

A 10-step routine is amazing for some people, but your skin might not need all of those steps to wake up flawless. Who has the time? Not me, Netflix is waiting in my bed.

Tailor your skincare routine to your actual skin. If you’re 22 years old and don’t necessarily feel like you need to start preventing wrinkles just yet, don’t assume you have to add a Retinol product to your routine. If you don’t have acne, an AHA/BHA might not benefit you as much. Pick your treatments based on what your skin actually needs.

You also don’t need to do the same thing every night. If my acne is looking good, I might skip my exfoliating peels and opt for something more hydrating or brightening. Don’t be afraid to switch up your routine for how your skin is feeling.

Always use SPF

If there’s one step you should never skip, it’s your morning SPF. We’ve heard it all before, but keeping your skin protected from the skin is the best thing you can do for anti-aging, fading dark marks, and keeping your skin healthy. It’s the one step you should be doing every morning to see results in your skin long-term.

Get some sleep

Don’t skimp on sleep, ladies. While it can seem taunting to stay up watching Riverdale or just getting some last-minute work done (been there, done that), the No. 1 thing your skin needs is time to regenerate and renew while you sleep. There’s a reason we get dark spots under our eyes when our sleep cycle is off!

Make sure to especially pay attention to how many hours you’re getting around your period, particularly if you’re skin reacts hormonally. Your body needs even more time to rest during that time, so give up just a little bit of your Monday night Bachelor recap sesh with your BFF to hit the hay.
