Me: “I need to stop buying things on Amazon.” Also me: *hits “Add To Cart” for the fourth time today*

What can I say… I’m a sucker for two-day shipping, having everything I could possibly need on one website, and being able to stock up on my favorite essential/not-so-essential items without having to leave the comfort of my bed. But with a quick review of my ever-growing list of great Amazon finds, I am reassured and once again question, “Why ruin a good thing?”

This month, I surveyed some trusted Amazon stans (my fellow coworkers) to bring you all some of the best Amazon finds that we treated ourselves to this month. From chic furry slipper slides to resistance bands that’ll help you get fit AF, we’ve got your next impulsive “Add To Cart” moment covered.

Amazon

Water Resistant Tote

I really wanted a medium-sized tote bag that I could bring around to all of my summer activities—whether that be a picnic, a day of running errands, a trip to the beach, or something where I might need a quick change of clothes. I scoured Amazon for far too long before landing on this one, but it has been everything I was looking for. It's perfect for packing up a picnic blanket, book, snacks, and wine, and it's easy to carry on my shoulder. I got it in a solid light purple color, but there are tons of cute colors and patterns available.

Tub Stopper

As someone who lives in an apartment, I don't have the luxury of a super fancy bathtub where I can take the baths that I dream about. However, I did want to be able to take baths in general, but my tub does not have a way to stop the drain. I did a quick search on Amazon to find something that could plug the drain and found these, which have thousands of five-star reviews. They work great and are perfect for apartment-dwellers like me.

Clear Shoe Organizers

I kept my shoes on a rack in my closet for YEARS. My shoes collected dust like no one’s business, the rack always fell apart, and I was stuck in an endless cycle of organizing my shoes on the rack, getting annoyed, just tossing them in the closet, and then reorganizing. I finally decided to do something about it and got these clear shoe boxes from Amazon. They stack neatly and open from the front, so my shoes stay dust-free AND it’s super easy to keep them organized. I’m very much not exaggerating when I say these shoe boxes are my favorite quarantine purchase.

Laptop Lap Desk

Listen: I love my desk. I have a small vase I put flowers in, a bunch of little knick-knacks, a sweet monitor setup, and a light I can set to any color I choose. But I probably only sit there about 60 percent of my work day. I like to migrate. I’ll sit at my dining table, in my reading chair, on my couch, wherever the wind takes me. I had been wanting a lap desk for quite some time and finally decided to just go for it. I truly don’t know why I waited so long, but this lap desk seriously makes my days so much better. I no longer have to deal with my laptop overheating on my lap and it also has a nifty holder I can put my phone in so I don’t constantly lose it between couch cushions or in the black hole that is my favorite chair.

Scuba Slide Sandal

When I tell you that I did some serious damage beefing up my summer wardrobe this month, I mean it. I purged old items I didn’t want and made a list of what I wanted to replace, and one of the items on that list was poolside slides that I could wear while running errands during the summertime. I originally found these slides on DSW’s website where they didn’t have my size but luckily, Amazon pulled through and had the exact same pair in the correct size in stock. They’re wildly comfortable and will be the perfect go-to slide for short walks around town and when I’m chilling at the beach or pool.

Pasta Bowls

Are you really an adult if you don’t have every type of bowl under the sun? Under this theory, up until a month ago, I wasn’t. My previous go-to bowls were a lot deeper but, at the same time, pretty damn small. AKA, mixing my salads in said bowl was a nightmare (picture: shreds of kale and sweet potatoes hopping out without warning) while my surface area for cheese on my pasta was little to none. I didn’t know that I needed these bowls so much until I actually started using them. They’re shallow but have a larger diameter, which makes them the perfect plate/bowl combo I didn’t even know I needed.

Workout Top

I was inspired by our editor Ashley and my newfound appreciation for the one-piece workout top to try this, and I am loving it so far. I don't have time to grab a sports bra AND a top before I do a workout, but I really don't feel comfortable just wearing a sports bra (beyond the body image of it all, it's just annoying to constantly pull down!). This solves all of those issues while looking really cute, and it just so happens I already had leggings in a few of these colors, so they look like sets!

Rolling Laundry Cart

I just moved to a new unit in my apartment building, which is a high-rise with a big laundry room on the top floor. In my previous apartment, I had the ratty, old hamper I'd used for years that made me never want to walk upstairs to do my laundry. And I mean it... never. So when I moved, I knew I had to opt for something that would be easy to take up and down, even if I had a hefty amount of clothes in it. Plus, my closet is totally visible, so I needed it to look somewhat presentable. I opted for this because the wheels would be easy to pull down the hallways, and I was right! I've done my laundry more in the last month than I did in the last six at my old place. Success.

SweatBlock Deodorant Lotion

Summer is my least favorite season for one reason, and one reason only. Once the temperature creeps above 75 degrees my entire body melts into a sweaty mess reminiscent of the 1980s classic character Swamp Thing. I’ve tried really cute solutions like body powder or deodorizing sprays to no avail. One thing that HAS shown promise is an aptly named body deodorant called Man Parts. It’s a talc-free lotion-to-powder formula that you can apply… wherever. Initial results have been strong, but I’ll have a better sense of how it performs when Manhattan returns to sweat lodge status in August. Note: Apparently they make a “Lady Parts” version, but I’ve already committed.

FAVORITES FROM LAST MONTH

Amazon

Motivational Water Bottle

Other than coffee, my Brita filter is the only beverage source I regularly keep in my fridge. My water intake has never really been a problem, exactly, but I wanted to make sure I was drinking at least two liters each day, rather than sipping on the same glass for hours at a time and forgetting to refill. Enter: one of my favorite recent purchases. I love having this bottle to help keep me accountable and, most importantly, hydrated.

Fabric Resistance Bands

Fabric resistance bands have been on my “to buy” list since I hastily ran to the nearest Target at the beginning of the pandemic looking for workout equipment. I snatched up a set of rubber resistance bands and a pair of pink dumbbells, ready to adapt my workout routine for the stay-at-home order. Unfortunately, I realized almost right away the rubber booty bands weren’t going to cut it. After approximately one (1) use, I knew I simply could not deal with them constantly rolling up during my workouts. After not touching them for a year, I finally upgraded to these fabric bands and I could not be happier. The fabric prevents them from rolling up in the middle of my workouts and I love the different resistance levels. Bonus: they also come with a small case to help keep your workout-from-home setup organized.

Marble Foam Roller

One of my most fatal flaws in life is that, despite knowing the benefits of foam rolling, I avoid it like the plague. Part of the reason that I dislike it is that, after an hour or more at the gym, I don’t necessarily want to stick around for an extra 20 minutes to get the job done. Before this purchase, I didn’t have one for myself and, naturally, I sustained a minor injury to my right hip that kept me from my gym routine for a few days. And what did my physical therapist urge me to do? Rest, foam roll, and let my body heal. So, I opened my Amazon app, pulled the trigger on this cute, apartment-friendly, marble-colored foam roller, and am vowing to make foam rolling a priority in my future routine.

Amazon

No Slip Claw Clip

I finally hopped on the rebirth of these claw clips and, let me tell you: These ones boast the perfect size, color assortment, and grip. I almost always have one in my hair and it’s the quickest way to pull myself together before any Zoom meeting or Trader Joe’s run.

Amazon

Rectangle Retro Sunglasses

Spring is finally here and after a few months of gloomy skies, I’m looking forward to sunny days ahead. This season, I’m opting for these super trendy sunnies that are impressively affordable. If there’s one lesson that I’ve learned after about 15 times of making the same mistake, it’s that designer sunnies and I just don’t mix. Cue me sitting directly on my Ray-Bans, hearing a devastating crunch, and stating, “This is why we can’t have nice things.” If any damage is done to these Amazon ones, I won’t feel as much shame because 1) they come in a pack of two and 2) they are inexpensive AF.

Athletic Running Shorts

I have never been a huge fan of shorts and that dislike also applied to exercise shorts until I ordered these. Not only do they not pinch me anywhere but they truly do not ride up! The longer layer compression piece stays put while the outer layer is a bit flowier so you don’t feel hugged in any of the wrong places. I was extra excited to see that the tech pocket in the compression shorts held my phone in place without any discomfort. Win-win in my book and 5 stars for these shorts.

Amazon

Straw Visor

With warm weather upon us and the damaging effects of my teen years spent in a tanning bed rearing its ugly head, this visor checks all of the boxes for me in my quest to achieve sun safety this season. I love the packable feature (it rolls in the tiniest crease-free ball), the wide brim that fully covers my entire face, and the sweet bow detail at the back makes it feel more grand millennial vs. plain granny. If you are looking to keep the sun off of your face without the consequence of hat head this visor is for you!

Facial Massage Ice Roller

I’ve always been obsessed with ice rolling the face for a variety of benefits. After a good ice rolling, my skin immediately looks glowier, less puffy, and I swear my pores seem smaller (oh, and any breakouts seem less noticeable too). Plus, I love using a roller on my neck and shoulders to relieve any neck tension and help with headaches. Sure I already had an ice roller, but when I saw this one that was way cuter (and super affordable) I knew it was time for an upgrade. Plus, the hinges don’t freeze like with other ice rollers I have, so even if you keep it in the freezer 24/7, it will still roll easily.

Furry Slipper Slides

Full disclosure: I have very few shoes that slip on. My closet is full of booties, sneakers, or even lace-up sandals, but I have never owned many slip-on shoes. As soon as slides became cool again, I knew I had to invest in a pair, both for fashion and my own convenience. There is no shoe better for running errands or taking the dog outside (AKA grabbing the leash and running when you know it’s an emergency). I stumbled upon these of-the-moment trendy slides with fur and I knew I had to have them. They are now officially my go-to pair of shoes for any OOTD or occasion, and they’re under $20, which means I got them in multiple colors.

Neoprene Dumbbell

I first purchased these weights in the 10 lb. variation in the middle of a workout when I realized I would absolutely perish if I didn’t get a new set of weights, and these were practically the only 10 lb. weights available on the Internet. Then a few weeks later, I ordered the 2 lb. set to use in pilates, barre, and yoga sculpt classes. I can’t say too much about these because they are simply weights, but they’re hella affordable and actually available to ship for the first time in one full year.

16-Piece Cookware Set

When I moved into my first apartment, I was all about budget. I bought the absolute cheapest version of every single thing someone might need because I was in college and had approximately $76 to my name at all times. Well, this past January, I realized I somehow was still using the cheapest pots and pans known to man, three years later. I found these on Amazon (admittedly because I was looking for pink pots and pans), and I love them. They were still quite budget-friendly for how many pieces it comes with, but the quality is eons better than what I was using before. I also love the colorful look—it gives me an excuse to leave pots and pans on my stove at all times in the name of ~aesthetics~ instead of pure laziness.

Dishwasher Magnet

For some reason, we’ve all just accepted that if you live with another human then you’ll constantly find yourself asking (or being asked) if the dishes in the dishwasher are clean or dirty. I spotted this $7 find at a friend’s house, and even after pressing purchase I had a pang of guilt that this wasn’t really needed. Well, five months later and I am ready to shout my love for this little gadget from the rooftops. It comes in black or silver so it blends seamlessly in with your appliances which helps it look more expensive than it is.

Adhesive Mount Cabinet Storage Organizer

You can also file this purchase under “lame things that make me incredibly happy”. My husband and I live in a historic home with approximately one closet, no pantry, and limited cabinets. This means we have to get incredibly creative with our storage solutions. Even though I’ve already done the full Home Edit treatment on most of our house, these little containers are a new touch of happiness for me. They have adhesive strips so you can add them to almost any cabinet or door. I added one under the sink for dishwasher pods and the second close to where we keep our vacuum cleaner so I could easily access the charging cord and attachments. After only a week with them, I got back on Amazon and bought three more sets.

Mini Dress with Ruffle Sleeves

I live in the south so summer is absolutely BRUTAL. Until November 1, you just accept that you’ll be covered in sweat anytime you leave the comfort of air conditioning. When I saw this dress on Jacey Duprie’s instagram a few weeks ago, I immediately added it to my cart. It hits my most important qualifications for summer clothing: light fabric, loose fit, hides sweat, and looks like you’re dressed up but with maximum comfort. I’m a size 8, so I ordered a medium (the size range listed for medium was 8-10) and I found it to fit perfectly loose. If you’re more on the small/medium size (like a 6-8), I would suggest sizing down as the dress has little to no shape. Some of the reviews note that it can be a bit short, so if you’re taller than 5ft 6 in, diligently check the dimensions before purchasing. Let’s be real: this is a $27 potato sack dress from Amazon. I’m not here to tell you it’s high quality by any means. But it’s easy to throw on with a pair of sandals and I’ll likely purchase this in a few more colors.

The post The Amazon Products Our Editors Bought and Loved This Month appeared first on The Everygirl.

You know how you can be mindlessly thumbing your way through Instagram and you keep seeing an ad for the same product? That’s what happened to me with the Hanacure All-In-One face mask. The mask is affectionately called the “Zombie” mask, as its patented CO2 Octolift formula reacts with the air and causes the mask to tighten up on your face, making you briefly look like a 90-year old version of yourself. After 30 minutes, you are supposed to be left with skin that is lifted, firmer, brighter, and hydrated, which makes this mask seem like the answer to most of the skincare questions you may have.

I’ve been aware of the mask for a couple of years and always thought it was a bit of a gimmick as everyone who tries it takes a “during” photo for the ‘gram, but as I kept seeing it, I couldn’t help but want to try it. And since working from home more consistently has led to me developing a daily self-care routine, I promptly ordered the starter kit to use on a mid-day break.

About My Skin

My skin falls into the normal category, so my skin is never really oily or dry. As such, I don’t really enjoy masks that suck moisture from my skin or leave it feeling tight, but I was willing to put my preferences aside to try out this mask. I do have some dark scarring along my jawline, which I have been working on lightening, but for the most part my skin is even.

About the Mask

There is a lot of science behind this mask, but essentially it is made with a CO2 formula that reacts with the air to start that intense tightening and compressing effect that the mask is known for. As the mask tightens, it draws impurities and pollution out of the pores, while natural biopolymers like beta-glucan, antioxidants, and botanicals like lotus leaf extract soothe, hydrate, and heal the skin. After 30 minutes, Hanacure promises that you will be left with a brighter, healthier, and younger-looking complexion. While the mask is safe for sensitive skin, it is mentioned in the instruction booklet that it can cause the skin to be flushed for 90-minutes post-application with the best results appearing a few hours after use, so I made sure to use it on a day when I wasn’t planning on leaving my apartment and knew I wouldn’t have any meetings immediately afterward.

Packaging: 10/10

When you open the box, everything you need is contained inside. The gelling solution and lifting serum come separately, but my favorite part was the reusable mask brush.

Application: 9/10

The mask needs to be applied on a cleansed and dry face, and since the mask is supposed to give you smoother, brighter, and clearer skin, I prepped my skin with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser, so that any changes in my skin could be attributed to the mask. I then felt a bit like a scientist as I mixed the lifting serum into the gelling solution and then shook it all together until a thick gel formed. I applied the gel to my face and under my chin, and even though it felt like I was putting a lot on my face, I was never worried that it would drip off my face. The mask needs to stay on for 30 minutes, so I grabbed my phone and settled in for 30 minutes of scrolling through TikTok.

At first, I felt nothing, but after about five minutes, my face started to tingle and I started to feel those tightening effects. After about 10 minutes, it felt like the mask was pushing on my face, and I could feel my face throbbing back in response. The 20-minute mark is when things got a bit dicey. TikTok couldn’t keep my interest anymore, so I tried to distract myself by snapping and sending selfies to some unsuspecting friends and family. Around the time my mom asked me why I looked like I was in pain, I started to feel really uncomfortable and wanted to get the mask off my face ASAP. But I am a rule-follower through and through, so I started telling myself it was just 10 more minutes, which is just 5 minutes twice or four 2.5 minute blocks until time was up.

Results: 9/10

Washing off the mask was such a relief, and I followed it up with a moisturizer as suggested. Initially, I was a bit shocked by how flushed and red my face was, which they do mention can happen for up to 90 minutes post-application, but I could also see that my skin was brighter and smoother. My dark spots also seemed to be blurred a little and my skin felt soft and nourished. When the redness subsided 30 minutes later, I was impressed with the results, but the glow I woke up with the following day has me obsessed.

Price: 5/10

At $29 for a single mask, or $110 for the 4-pack, this mask isn’t exactly cheap. You have to use all of the lifting serum and gelling solution with each application so there is no way to stretch it, which makes its cost per use quite expensive. It was fun to use though with great results, so I would probably repurchase it for use before a special event or as a fun activity during a Girls Night or Bachelorette party. That being said, the mask does give you results similar to those I’ve seen after a professional facial, at a significantly cheaper price, which does make this mask feel a bit more affordable.

The Final Verdict:

At the end of the day, I would definitely be recommending it to friends who are looking to have glowing skin for an event. This isn’t a mask that I would use weekly, however, it is one that I would repurchase to keep on hand to use every couple of months or whenever my skin could use a little TLC. I was so impressed by the results that I saw, and I am eager to recreate them in the future.

The post I Tried the Viral ‘Zombie’ Face Mask Loved By Celebs—Was it Worth the Hype? appeared first on The Everygirl.

Even I, a beauty editor, can’t possibly imagine going back to the life of having to get ready in a specified amount of time before work again. I want it one of two ways: either I get ready in five minutes max, or I mosey around my apartment getting ready for about eight hours. I have no in-between, and it’s usually likely I’m going with the five-minute route before hopping on a Zoom call or going anywhere these days, which has changed up my beauty routine quite a bit. Instead of products that had lots of payoff and looked really unique, I focus on time-saving beauty products that have multiple uses and get me ready and out the door in a few minutes flat.

When I’m looking to pack a punch into my beauty routine and get ready quick, I reach for these double-duty products:

IL MAKIAGE

Woke Up Like This - Flawless Base Foundation

I know many of us are over full-coverage foundations, but I have recently discovered this one, and it’s entirely changed my mind. Full coverage doesn’t have to mean cakey, heavy, or uncomfortable, and this foundation is basically the opposite of all of those negative characteristics. I love it when I’m trying to get my makeup done quickly because it’s one-and-done and so easy to blend. I don’t have to go in with concealer because it covers everything in one step, but unlike other full coverage foundations, it blends seamlessly into my skin, so the application is so quick. This is bold, but this is the best foundation product I’ve tried in a long time.

Glow Recipe

Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm & Makeup Remover

When you want to add a little extra exfoliation to your cleansing step, try a product like this. I swear by using a cleanser with a little something in it (I like salicylic acid, but glycolic and lactic are great too) on my combo/acne-prone skin. It keeps my pores un-clogged and actually makes my skin feel clean, unlike milky cleansers, which just aren’t enough on my skin type. This cleansing balm has papaya enzymes to help resurface skin, while the oils cleanse and remove makeup, dirt, oil, and SPF.

OUAI

Super Dry Shampoo

This dry shampoo is for the days you’re like, “I’m not sure if dry shampoo will cut it today.” With this one, it will. But it does so without being too irritating on your scalp, and while it leaves a little white cast at first, it blends in easily with your fingers. For the days you just don’t have time to shower, you’ll want this in your arsenal. I love it for refreshing my hair after the gym, and it’s great for adding lots of texture to my clean hair too.

MAKE UP FOREVER

Artist Color Pencil: Eye, Lip & Brow Pencil

I love a product that I can use more than one way. It takes up less space in my makeup bag if I can find a couple of ways to use it. This pencil doubles as an eye and lip pencil (you could probably also use it on your brows or to add some extra pigment to beauty marks too!), and I love this “Endless Cacao” shade for creating a gorgeous brown smokey eye with a neutral brown lip. This creates such a classic look in less than five minutes, and you only have to use one product. Plus, I love these pencils because they’re the perfect mix of creamy and pigmented but with lots of staying power. They’re my #1 favorite lip pencils, and this color is slowly becoming my favorite for the eyes too.

IGK

Antisocial Leave-In Dry Hair Mask

I want to love hair masks so much, but I find them extremely inconvenient. I hate that I have to get my hair wet to apply it, but then get out to leave it on. I simply do not have time to dry off my entire body multiple times in one day. This means I almost never use my hair masks… until I found this one. You apply this mask to your hair while it’s dry (ideally before bed), and you’re good to go. There’s no need to wash it out, but it leaves your hair just as soft and shiny as any other hair mask you’d spend forever tinkering with might.

Beauty Bakerie

Organic Blending Eggs

Beauty sponges have entirely changed our beauty routines, and I don’t think I’d be able to do my makeup without one at this point. When I want to blend my foundation, concealer, blush, or bronzer quickly and without worrying if I’ll be marred by harsh lines, I trust a beauty sponge to get it done. These ones from Beauty Bakerie are extremely cost effective (you get six sponges for less than $20, making them cheaper than practically any other sponge I’ve tried), and they’re just as soft as the ones five times the price.

Bumble and Bumble

Don't Blow It Fine Hair Air Dry Styler

When I want my hair to look good quickly, I almost never rely on air drying. My hair, like most, is quite unpredictable. Some days, it’ll air dry completely pin-straight. Others, my ends flip under like I’m a ‘90s sitcom (and not the cute kind). But I can always count on my hair to dry extremely flat with absolutely no volume. However, blow-drying my hair isn’t always in the cards. So, I turn to this air dry cream. It gives my hair the hold and volume I love from a blow dryer without the heat damage. I love to put this in my hair and then braid it or put it up in a clip for heatless waves. It’s so much easier than having to sit in front of a mirror with a curling iron, and my hair likes me a lot better in the long run.

NYX Professional Makeup

Born To Glow Radiant Under Eye Concealer

This concealer is taking over TikTok, and I see why. It’s a radiant, medium-coverage concealer that effortlessly blends into skin. I’ve been using it under my eyes and to spot conceal with a little bit of powder, and it gives me a gorgeous, glowy look without much effort at all. It doesn’t crease in my fine lines, and I love that it actually has some glow to the formula without looking greasy.

Glow Recipe

Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Serum

I’ve been raving about this product for months, and going into summer, it’s become my go-to product to add extra glow to my skin in the morning when I don’t want to wear makeup. This product works double-duty as a hyaluronic acid serum, plumping up and hydrating my skin while also giving me such a gorgeous, dewy glow.

Revlon

One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer

Only the most-loved hair tool of the last few days (and I predict the next decade), this one-step hair dryer will give you the blowout of your dreams in under 15 minutes (or five if you have thin hair like me!). I have curtain bangs, and I use this to style my curtain bangs basically every single day, and it’s the easiest way to get that swoopy look in truly one minute. I would be lost without this tool in my hair kit.

Supergoop!

Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

Combine two steps in one with this sunscreen and makeup primer in one. The Unseen Sunscreen is a thin, silicone-based SPF 40 product that blurs pores and primes your face for makeup, all while protecting it from the sun. If you struggle to remember to apply sunscreen every single day, this is a great product to add to your routine because it just takes the place of a makeup step. If you have dry skin, they also have the Glowscreen Sunscreen that has a built-in illuminator (and is absolutely gorgeous).

Isle of Paradise

Self Tanning Drops

For the ultimate tanning experience, kiss the mousse goodbye and pick up our favorite tanning drops. Simply put a few drops in your moisturizer, and you’ll wake up with bronzey, glowy skin, and you didn’t even really add an extra step. I often forget to self-tan because it feels like such an extra step in my routine, but since I tried these drops, I consistently do it because I just keep the drops in my bathroom cabinet next to my moisturizer, and it’s easy as pie.

Jergens

Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer

Our whole team swears by this product for soft, supple skin without the annoying step of applying moisturizer all over your body, feeling sticky, waiting for it to dry, and wishing you’d never put it on because you feel so uncomfortable. Either during your shower or right after, apply this over wet skin and pat your skin dry with a towel (patting dry is important because wiping will wipe the product off!). It takes all the frustrating aspects of applying a body moisturizer off your plate but keeping all the benefits. When I’m not using this regularly, I can tell. My skin is so much drier and flakier, and I even notice my tan lasts longer!

Danessa Myricks

Colorfix Eye, Cheek & Lip Cream Pigment

I had to include a classic double-duty product, and this one is becoming one of my favorites. This is a cream you can use on your eyes, lips, and cheeks, and I truly use it on all three. On the eyes, you can use it as a sheer wash, or apply it with a flat brush for a punch of color. On the cheeks, I use a tiny amount with a fluffy duo-fibre brush to spread it across my cheeks. And on the lips, I apply it just with my fingers. This is great for creating monochrome looks (which is a major go-to for me when I’m looking for something easy that’s still trendy and fun), but I also just love it individually for each part of my face. This is a perfect makeup bag addition because you get three products all in one. I only have neutral shades right now, but the pink and yellow are calling my name for summer. (Danessa Myricks often mixes these to create her own custom colors, which is exactly what I’m dreaming of doing!)

Benefit Cosmetics

They're Real! Magnet Extreme Lengthening Mascara

Everyone needs a classic mascara you can rely on that won’t clump, flake, or smudge throughout the day, and this one is mine. When I want my lashes to look their best, I always reach for this. I love it so much, I wrote this entire review all about it. 🙂

The post 15 Time-Saving Beauty Products That Will Cut Your Routine in Half appeared first on The Everygirl.

As of late, nothing holds the power to create a beauty trend like a viral TikTok does. A video of incredible results or an out-of-the-box method can make everyone and their mother want to try it—and that’s exactly what happened this year when videos of using rice water on hair started circulating.

While seeing women flipping their waist-length, gorgeous hair can make anyone want to jump on a bandwagon and try just about anything they recommend, it’s hard to know when something is really worth the effort or is just a gimmick. To help debunk if rice water is a myth, we spoke with Dr. Steven Shapiro, a Healthcare Provider at Gardens Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery Center, to get professional intel on if there’s really any science to back it up.

Many of us first heard of using rice water for hair through TikTok this year, but according to Dr. Shapiro, it’s actually a centuries-old practice. “This natural hair remedy dates all the way back to Japan’s famous Heian Period. During that time, women in high society were famous for their glossy, healthy, floor-length hair,” he said. “Over the years, I’d only spoken to a handful of patients who’d tried rice water at home—until this year.”

Rice water is said to make hair shinier, stronger, and healthier due to its starchiness and high content of vitamins—and that isn’t just info that’s circulating on TikTok. According to Dr. Shapiro, there really is science behind why TikTok can be so beneficial to hair.

Rice water is packed with nutrients that can dramatically improve the look and feel of your hair. For starters, it’s rich in amino acids, organic compounds that can help strengthen your hair from root to tip. This not only makes your hair more resistant to breaking and splitting, it also gives it a smoother and shinier quality overall,” Dr. Shapiro said.

Claims that rice water can make hair grow also have evidence to back them up, thanks to niacina chemical compound that’s found in it.

Rice water also contains inositol, a carbohydrate that can help increase your hair’s natural elasticity. This helps your hair withstand heat styling, harsh weather, and other stressors that are known to cause damage,” Dr. Shapiro explained. “Last but not least, rice water has niacin, a chemical compound that can help support healthy circulation in your scalp—something essential to healthy hair growth.”

Since it’s inexpensive and can be made at home, trying rice water for your hair has a lot of potential benefits with minimal risk, since according to Dr. Shapiro, the ingredients are mild and can be used on all hair types.

While there are many rice water products currently on the market, Dr. Shapiro recommended the simplest route: making it at home. Looking to try it out yourself? Here’s how:

How to make rice water at home

  1. Rinse around 1 cup of jasmine rice
  2. Combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of clean water, and soak it in a mixing bowl for around an hour
  3. Strain the water and transfer it to a clean bowl
  4. Keep the water in a container with a lid chilled in the fridge. It should keep for about one week.

For optimal results, Dr. Shapiro recommends using long-grain, white rice. Avoid using instant rice as it tends to be lower in nutrients.

How to use rice water

According to Dr. Shapiro, the easiest way to use rice water is in the shower.

“One of the easiest, most effective ways to use rice water is while you shower,” Dr. Shapiro said. “After you wash your hair, and you’ve rinsed all the shampoo out, massage rice water onto your scalp and work it through your strands all the way to the ends. Then, conditioner your hair like you would normally and allow your hair to air dry. Many people notice their hair feels softer and silkier after their very first time using it.”

If you’re looking for the waist-length hair that you might have seen on TikTok, Dr. Shapiro recommends using rice water on your hair once a week for longer-term results.

You might also have seen videos of people adding additional ingredients to their rice water, but Dr. Shapiro said that rather than doing that, it’s best used in combination with nutrient-rich hair formulas.
